Diane
Romanello is a self-taught artist whose
scenic paintings are characterized by a sense of
beauty and romance, inviting the viewer into a
serene, natural world. Whether depicting pastel
flower gardens lining a promenade, brick lanes,
leading to lake fronts, or boardwalks which
invite a walk on the beach, her images suggest
the memory of a treasured place.
The artist states,
"I want the viewer to feel as though they can
step right into my work."
Diane's paintings blend luxuriant and soothing
color with sumptuous texture, her brush strokes
evident in every image. Her luminous beach
scenes, landscapes, gardens and country
retreats merge elements of fantasy with realism,
accomplished by the artist's keen sense of light,
texture and composition.
When it comes to being a super star in the world
of poster artists, there are few who have the
name recognition and “staying power” of
Diane Romanello. Known for her images that
put a romantic and dreamlike spin on reality,
Diane feels grateful she’s able to share her work
in poster form. “Art shouldn’t just be for those
who can afford to buy originals; art should be
accessible for everyone who needs a little joy
and peace in their lives,” she says. Ms.
Romanello has published nearly 100 posters to
date: 65 of them have been in print for at least
five years, and 30 of them have been in print for
at least ten years. When Diane was in her early
30’s she decided to go into business for herself. It
was a toss up between opening an Art Gallery
or a Baskin & Robbins. When she opened the
Gallery, she was carrying other people’s art and
doing custom framing. It was in that business
that she began to paint for profit. In order to
satisfy some of her decorator clients, Diane
began doing large abstract and impressionistic
canvases - to match people’s couches. That is
how she began; but never cared much for
those paintings and decided to paint what she
liked. “I read a lot of books on technique and
tried a variety of ideas until I found my niche.
I started painting winter scenes of New York City
and to my amazement, customers started
buying my paintings. My New York winter pieces
were my first four posters”
Spending half of her year in the northeast and
the other half in Florida, Diane has developed
an eye for the tranquility of the outdoors. Her
vistas have a vision of places that at once
seem familiar and inviting-places that perhaps
we have visited and long to return to. One
only has to view a Romanello horizon to
escape for a moment to a peaceful place.
