I began drawing and painting around the year
2000 after retiring from a 30 year career in
Education. I had always been interested in art
and retired early to pursue what has become
my passion. I am particularly interested in the
figure and regularly attend life drawing sessions,
and, as a result, the figure has become the
subject of many of my paintings. I am drawn to
paintings that have some element of narrative
and that demonstrate an imaginative
approach to the subject matter. Many of my
ideas come from hours of “playing” with different
media and drawing from my imagination. I like
to work with a variety of media – acrylic, ink,
watercolour, paper and thread. Many of my
paintings are whimsical and I focus on elements
in my life from which I derive a great deal
of happiness.
I have been in several juried shows and in
2004 I was awarded signature status (AFCA)
at the Federation of Canadian Artists. I have
been port of several private shows – “Through
the Gate” with Doreen King in May 2003; my
own one woman show “A Commitment to
Colour, Whimsy and the Imagination” at the
Hillside Community Gallery in October 2004;
“Triple Play” at the Fort Gallery with Kelaine
Divine and Claire Moore in June 2005; and in
October 2005 “Expression Times Five” with
Sandra Taylor, Miriam Friedberg, Donna
Wright and Shirley Rampton at the Tsawassen
Long House Gallery. I was also a participant
in the summer gallery at the Federation
Gallery in 2006.
