Art has always been a part of Greg Alexander’s
life. "We are born with certain gifts and if we
choose, through dedication and passion those
gifts can turn into a talent. I fell in love with
drawing in the first grade as I watched my
father take a plain white sheet of paper and
penciled in a beautiful sketch.”

An artistic tradition continued for the Sault
Ste. Marie, Mich. native throughout school.
He developed a creative style and enrolled
in an art college. But the classes and
techniques offered by the school conflicted
with his own pursuit of wildlife art. After one
frustrating semester the dean of the art school
said, “This school is not for you Greg. You
need to keep going on your own, teach
yourself as you have been with your
reference photography and get out there
and be close to the subjects you love
to paint.”

This great advice gave Alexander the
confidence to pursue artistic development
individually. Alexander moved to the south
shore of Lake Superior and spent the next
four years in a remote log cabin. “I figured
one hundred-fifty dollars per month rent
was a pretty cheap tuition for my self guided
education,” he says.

Dedication and hard work has paid off.
Alexander supports his family through his art.
Greg currently makes his home in beautiful
Ashland, Wis. along the graceful, rugged
shores of Lake Superior with his wife Gina
and two children, Leisha and Marilyn. The
surrounding Northwoods countryside provides
Greg with true inspiration. The great outdoors
surrounds Alexander. This talented artist sees
more beautiful scenes just outside his
doorstep than he can paint in a lifetime.

A dramatic use of light and keen, sensitive
interpretation have earned Alexander ten
state conservation stamps. He was also
chosen as the 2003 Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation Artist of the Year. The popularity
of his wildlife art transcends state
boundaries. Alexander has sold thousands
pieces of his artwork nationally.

Today he is rightly considered one of the
country’s finest wildlife artists.
